Hummingbirds, Quiet Moments, and the Art of Doing Nothing
I did the unthinkable yesterday. I sat on the porch with the fan blowing on me and gave myself permission to do nothing for hours and hours. I sketched. I read a book. I napped on and off. I stared out the window and watched winged things enjoying a thick patch of bee balm. There were bumble bees, butterflies, and two hummingbirds flitting here and there and occasionally landing to rest. I even watched a standoff between a gray squirrel and a mourning dove. The mourning dove would fan all of her feathers out and squack. Eventually, the squirrel won. She flew away, and he ate all of her sunflower seeds. I love that the air feels as thick as it sounds with the chorus of cicadas, crickets, and katydids. I could use a whole week (or two?) of days like yesterday: napping, walking slowly, sipping lemonade, and ignoring anything to do with my laptop or phone. Hmmm. Someday. I hope you have many lazy summer hours on your horizon, too. xo
